The PK Mechanism Change - Fair or Unfair for OSRS Players?
Oh dear, you are dead! - What I hate most is the message appearing in my chatbox.
In the OSRS game, you can meet and fight with other players in the Wilderness and some specific arena or worlds. Have you ever PKed others or been PKed by other PKers? The PK mechanism has been working well in the past years. But it has been changed nowadays.
Reason for the PK Mechanism Change
"Some of you have also fallen victim to 'pile jumping' or 'player jumping' (the eponymous 'PJ'), which is when another player muscles in when your opponent is nearly dead, stealing your kill and swiping the loot." In the OSRS Official blog, the OSRS Team said why they wanted to change the PK mechanism.
How Did They Change It
"Whenever you attack something aggressive, monsters or player opponents will be unable to hit you for the next 20 cycles (12 seconds). So, if Player A had just finished PvP combat with Player B, NPCs won't be able to get into the action until the PJ timer runs down." We can see that the change is for protecting the PKers.
Fair or Unfair
However, for PKers, is the old PK mechanism relatively unfair? In this regard, I want to say that you can only kill others. Can not others kill you? When you kill players, you should be ready to be killed by others.
I was always glad to see someone kill the one who attacked me. But the new PK mechanism for protecting these honest and hardworking PKers was unfair to the players who did not want to fight with others. Didn't the OSRS team consider the feelings of those who didn't want to be killed by others?
In this way, the Wilderness becomes more dangerous, especially for players who don't like PK. Sometimes, you enter the Wilderness to complete some achievements, hunt a treasure trail, or get/upgrade your God capes by playing Mage Arena Miniquest. But it's a piece of good news for the players who like PK.
Be careful! Some players run back and forth between some hot spots in the Wilderness all day, looking for their targets and getting rewards for killing them.
By the way, they also mentioned that the old PK mechanism would keep working on worlds 318 and 319.
